Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Ratzinger) has passed away at the age of 95. It's a very sad day for many Catholics who loved and respected Pope Benedict. As a recent convert to the Catholic faith, and with my entire experience as a Catholic being under the current pontificate of Pope Francis, it would be dishonest of me to claim that I have some valuable insight from my experience of Pope Benedict and his pontificate. Truth be told I have embarrassingly minute exposer to the writings and speeches of Pope Benedict from either his time as Pope or his time as a preeminent theologian of the Church. However, the impact that he had on so many Catholics is something that has been made plainly obvious to me since before my conversion to Catholicism. There is no doubt that today we have lost a great and holy man. To many he will be remembered as one of the greatest modern theologians of the Catholic Church, and to others he was simply a spiritual father or grandfather that nourished their Catholic faith. Most of all, it seems that Pope Benedict will be remembered universally as a great defender and advocate of the Church.
